Benefit for St. Nicholas Shrine Features Star Power
Eleni Calenos and Anthoula Katsimatidis join to perform oratorio by Savvas Karantzias
NEW YORK – Making its North American debut on March 20 at 7:30 p.m., Theofanes the Greek by composer Savvas Karantzias will be performed to benefit the St. Nicholas Shrine at the World Trade Center Memorial Site. Karantzias will be in attendance from Greece to see his work premiered at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.
To properly bring the oratorio to life, the concert will feature notable soprano soloist Eleni Calenos along with Anthoula Katsimatidis, who will be taking on the role of the narrator.
“I can’t think of a better way to raise funds for the St. Nicholas Shrine than with this performance,” said Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir musical director, Evey Simon. “With the powerful voices of Eleni and Anthoula and the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, this will not only be a beautiful night of music, but an unforgettable occasion for all who attend.”
Along with the high patronage of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America the concert will also take place under the auspices of the Consulate of Greece in New York.
Tickets are on sale now for $100 at archcathedralchoir.com. The evening of music under a Byzantine dome will feature the musical direction of Evey Simon along with associate director, Costa Tsourakis and be accompanied by the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra.
