A Contemporary Saint

The Greek contemporary composer Savvas Karantzias, has written numerous works fororchestra, choir, chamber music performers and solo pieces. His works have been performed on the world’s best venues in Greece, France, the United States, Australia and other
countries.
The work “A Contemporary Saint” is dedicated to the life and spiritual legacy of Saint Iakovos Tsalikis, one of the most significant figures of Orthodox monasticism in Greece during the
20th century.

This composition seeks to illuminate his spiritual journey and his profound relationship with both humanity and God. The texts of the work are drawn from recorded testimonies and personal accounts of people who lived close to the Saint, offering an authentic portrayal of his presence and his lasting impact.

The primary source of inspiration is Saint Iakovos’ way of life itself:
Ηis humility, deep spirituality, selflessness, and genuine love for others. These virtues do not belong solely to the past; they remain timeless values and a guiding light for the modern world.
Through music and word, the work transcends simple biographical narration and becomes a spiritual invitation—a reminder that holiness can be lived within everyday life, through simplicity, faith, and love.
